The WCM Postdoctoral Association (PDA) is an independent organization run by and for the college's postdoctoral community and represents postdoctoral fellows and associates throughout WCM. Our executive council is a group of postdoctoral researchers who meet monthly to discuss issues relevant to the postdoctoral community and represent the interests of postdocs to the WCM faculty and administration. The PDA works closely with the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs and has developed collegial relationships with other postdoctoral associations in the New York City area to help meet the needs of the postdoctoral community. The WCM-PDA represents all postdocs and welcomes any postdoc to join their activities.
We work closely with the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs. Our collegial relationships with other postdoctoral associations in New York City strengthens our ability to serve the needs of the postdoctoral community.
The PDA has worked with the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs to:
- Successfully establish stipend standards based on the NIH guidelines
- Help streamline access to postdoctoral housing at Weill Cornell
- Gain representation on the General Faculty Council (the College's governing body) and the Joint Faculty and Postdoctoral Advisory Committee
- Initiate monthly happy hours and summer socials
PDA leadership consists of two Co-Presidents and the chairs of the advisory committees.
The PDA meets on the second Friday of each month from 2 p.m. to 3:0 p.m. in Room C-405 at 1300 York Ave. The schedule is posted on the Events Calendar. It is open to all postdoctoral trainees. The meeting agenda is posted in advance on the PDA Facebook website. Part of the agenda include updates from the four standing committees, Website Committee, Postdoc Research Day and Career Development and Social Committee. In addition, any postdoc may contribute to the agenda. Indeed, all postdocs are strongly encouraged to attend and participate in the meetings.
The Postdoctoral Association maintains the pda@med.cornell.edu listserv which you may use to post messages to the entire postdoc community. This is useful for requesting assistance with supplies or equipment, career advice, housing questions, childcare issues or just social interactions. Please contact postdocaffairs@med.cornell.edu to be placed on this mailing list. The Postdoctoral Association can be contacted at pda.weillcornell@gmail.com.
