Transportation to Weill Cornell Medicine & within NYC

New York City’s extensive network of 24-hour public transportation makes it easy to navigate to the Weill Cornell campus. The City is also very accessible, either through walking or through the expanding Citi-bike program.

Public Transit

The City’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) has oversight for the public subway and bus system. It is the largest public transportation agency in North America and one of the largest in the world.

Access to all MTA NYC transportation is via prepaid MetroCards which can be purchased at station vending machines and some neighborhood vendors. Fares are currently a flat-rate of $2.75 per ride for subways and local buses. A new MetroCard will cost an additional $1.00. Free transfers are available between subways and local buses.

Directions to Weill Cornell Medicine

By Subway

Take the #6 train to East 68th Street. Walk four blocks east to York Avenue and north one block to 69th Street. OR

Take the “Q” train to 72nd Street-2nd Avenue. Walk two blocks east to York Avenue and three blocks south to 69th Street.

By Bus

Take the M31 to the East 69th Street stop, directly in front of Weill Cornell Medical College. (The M31 operates north and south on York Avenue.)

From the West Side of Manhattan, the M66 and M72 crosstown buses terminate at the Medical campus.

Directions to Roosevelt Island Housing 

Take the “F” train to Roosevelt Island. Exit the station and walk northeast on W Road. Turn right toward Main Street. Turn left onto Main Street.

From the Upper East Side of Manhattan it is also possible to take the aerial tram to Roosevelt Island. The entrance to the system is at 60th Street and Second Avenue.

Bus Service to Ithaca 

There is daily bus service between the Weill Cornell Medicine campus and the Cornell Ithaca campus departing from 1300 York Avenue. Rates for Cornell affiliates are currently $165 round trip and $82.50 one way. Passengers must book a trip using the reservation system or the call center; walk-up passengers will not be accommodated.

Please be at your designated stop and ready to board at least ten minutes before the scheduled departure time. Buses leave promptly at the time noted. Arrival time is approximately 4.5 hours after departure. Travel time may be impacted by weather and traffic, so please plan your schedule accordingly.

 Intercampus Shuttle 

An intercampus shuttle provides service throughout the day between the Weill Cornell Medicine and Columbia University Medical Center campuses. The shuttle departs from the southwest corner of York Ave. and 70th Street. WCM ID is required.
