Departmental Orientation & Compliance Checklist

At Onboarding you will receive the ‘Department Orientation & Compliance Checklist.’ The tasks include:

  • Medical Clearance
  • Online Fire Safety Training
  • Review Fire Safety & Evacuation Procedures
  • HIPAA Training
  • Complete ‘Conflicts of Interests’ form
  • Training specifically related to your lab work (e.g. Radiation safety)
  • Research Compliance Training

Medical Clearance

During the onboarding process, you will need to schedule an appointment with Workforce Health & Safety (WHS) for a medical screening. Included in the appointment are Tuberculosis tests (two tests over two weeks, four visits) and MMR Titer Immunity tests to confirm IgG antibodies to Measles, Mumps, and Rubella.

Workforce Health & Safety is located at 1315-1319 York Ave. at 70th St. (basement level).

Fire Safety

To complete the required certification:

Log-in to myApps.

Select “Weill Business Gateway.”

Log-in with your CWID and password.

Select the “Employee Self-Service” tab.

Select “Weill Training Management System.”

Select “Weill Training Management System Home.”

Select “Browse Catalog” from the links menu.

Select “Environmental Health and Safety.”

In the “Web-Based Training” section, choose “Online Fire Safety.”

Select “Book” to add the course to your dashboard for completion.

Fire Safety & Evacuation Procedures 

All Weill Cornell Medicine (WCM) students, faculty, and staff must know the specific fire and evacuation procedures for the building(s) they routinely occupy. Please familiarize yourself with the Fire Safety and Emergency Action Plan.

HIPAA Training 

To complete the required certification:

Log-in to myApps.

Select “Weill Business Gateway.”

Log-in with your CWID and password.

Select the “Employee Self-Service” tab.

Select “Weill Training Management System.”

Select “Weill Training Management System Home.”

Select “Browse Catalog” from the links menu.

Select “HIPAA & Compliance Courses.”

Select “HIPAA-Training 2014”

Select “Book” to add the course to your dashboard for completion.

Conflict of Interest

Select “Conflicts of Interest” from the upper-left menu.

Select “Create/Update Disclosure.”

Select “Create Initial Conflicts Survey” and complete the form.

Research Compliance Training 

An online training program to assist WCM employees including Postdoctoral Scholars in the day-to-day processes of research administration. The program addresses both institutional and statutory requirements that occur in the grant application process. Information about the training is here.

To gain access to the training, you or your DA must e-mail research_compliance@med.cornell.edu requesting to be registered. Include your full name, CWID, department and division. You will receive an e-mail reply with instructions.
