The Aksay Laboratory of Cornell University at the Weill Medical Center in New York City is seeking two postdoctoral research scholars to advance our understanding of dynamics in neural systems. Topics under investigation include mechanisms of persistent neural activity, synaptic- and circuit-level rules governing plasticity of network dynamics, and the role of excitatory/inhibitory imbalance in seizure initiation. Our experimental approaches include electrophysiology, multi-photon imaging and perturbation, and connectomics; our analytic approaches borrow from causal network inferencing, machine learning, and control theory. The laboratory is well funded and support for these positions is generously provided by grants from the Simons Collaboration on the Global Brain, National Eye Institute, National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, and the BRAIN Initiative.
Job Requirements
Ideal candidates are expected to have an excellent publication record with expertise in quantitative optical methods, electrophysiology, molecular/genetic techniques, and mathematical modeling. Candidates with strong physics, engineering, computer science, or applied mathematics backgrounds are particularly encouraged to apply. Selected scholars are expected to be creative, collaborative, and ambitious; they are also encouraged to spend ~25% of their time establishing new research directions that benefit from existing projects and tools in the lab. Senior applicants may be considered for Research Associate or Research Faculty positions.
