Human Resources Immigration Services

The HR Immigration team oversees Weill Cornell Medicine’s adherence to U.S. immigration laws and regulations by assisting with the visa sponsorship process and ensuring regulatory compliance for our Foreign National employees. Our work involves advising faculty, hiring managers, recruiters, and employees on visa sponsorship-related matters. Our team often collaborates with other WCM departments to find solutions to complex sponsorship cases, resolve foreign national taxation issues, and provide general guidance on strategic visa pathways to help ensure a successful career trajectory for our Foreign National employees.

Please review the information below to better understand what the Immigration team can and cannot provide.

Immigration may assist Foreign National employees with the following:

  • Identify applicable tax exemptions for foreign nationals
  • Advise on minimum insurance requirements for WCM sponsored J-1 visitors
  • Coordinate with Housing Department on date of arrival for WCM sponsored foreign nationals
  • Advise department to notify Office of Faculty Affairs of changes
  • Advise the Finance Department on available immigration related tax exemptions and update EC/SAP when needed
  • Coordinate with onboarding to ensure background check is completed

Please contact the following WCM Departments for all other assistance:

  • Tax advice: Please note that WCM does not provide tax advice for WCM employees. Please seek assistance from a tax preparatory service.
