Postdoctoral Associate in Psychiatry

As a Postdoctoral Associate, you will be working to advance projects using precision functional MRI (PFM) and targeted neuromodulation to study brain–symptom dynamics in unipolar and bipolar depression. You will be responsible for the following:

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and mentor research assistants conducting participant recruitment, clinical assessments, and data collection.
  • Oversee weekly longitudinal data acquisition of fMRI and clinical measures, ensuring adherence to protocol and data integrity.
Perform preprocessing and analysis of neuroimaging data on a rolling basis to support individualized, within-person brain–symptom modeling.
  • Apply precision functional mapping methods to create individualized brain network maps for intervention targeting.
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of individualized neuronavigation procedures to guide TMS interventions.
Integrate imaging, stimulation, wearable, and EMA data to build multimodal datasets.
  • Contribute to the dissemination of findings through manuscripts and national/international presentations.
  • Participate in grant development and foster opportunities for independent research aligned with the goals of the project.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD in neuroscience, psychology, biomedical engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Applicants must submit a letter of recommendation from their current supervisor (e.g., principal investigator, mentor, or department chair) addressing the applicant’s qualifications, research experience, and suitability for the position.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong publication record in human neuroimaging, ideally with experience in connectivity analysis or precision fMRI.
  • Proficiency with neuroimaging software (e.g., FSL, AFNI, SPM, Workbench) and programming languages (Python, MATLAB, or R).
Experience with TMS, DTI, multi-echo fMRI, PFM, wearable devices, and/or EMA is highly desirable.
Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to supervise and mentor junior team members.
  • Empathy, patience, and professionalism in working with individuals experiencing severe mood symptoms, including treatment-resistant depression and bipolar disorder.

Application Process:

Interested candidates should submit their application materials by email to Chuck Lynch at cjl2007@med.cornell.edu. Applications should include a current curriculum vitae (CV). Applicants are also encouraged to include a brief statement describing their interest in the position and relevant research background; while optional, this statement will be helpful in the evaluation of applications
