The Arifuzzaman Lab seeks to understand how nutrients influence the gut microbiota and how microbiota-derived small molecule metabolites regulate immunity at mucosal and distant tissue sites in the contexts of infection, inflammation, metabolic homeostasis, and cancer. We also seek to explore the involvement of other systems, including the nervous system, in this process of immunoregulation.
We utilize flow cytometry and microscopy techniques to study various immune cells including eosinophils and their interactions with neighboring non-immune cell types (such as epithelial cells, stromal cells, and neurons). Additionally, we employ metagenomic, metabolomic, and transcriptomic approaches to determine the immunoregulatory roles of various microbiota-derived metabolites and host receptors.
The Arifuzzaman Lab is part of the Division of Gastroenterology in the Department of Medicine and is affiliated with several centers and institutes at Weill Cornell Medicine, including the Friedman Center for Nutrition, and the Jill Roberts Institute for Research in Inflammatory Bowel Disease. We are located in an exceptional research hub in New York City, with access to cutting-edge technology and numerous opportunities for collaboration with colleagues at Weill Cornell and surrounding research centers.
Job Description:
As a Postdoctoral Associate, you will be working on a project related to cellular and molecular mechanisms by which diet and microbiota regulate the immune system. You will be responsible for the following:
- Conduct the research independently and/or collaboratively with colleagues to ensure all experiments are appropriately conducted following Lab, Department, and College policies and procedures.
- Designing, organizing, and carrying out experiments using established protocols, and sometimes adapting to and designing new protocols.
- Collect, prepare, and analyze research data. This may include keeping a detailed notebook summarizing experiments and recording research data and/or maintaining a computer database of the research data.
- Tabulate data for presentations and use graphics and statistical software to analyze and present data.
- Participate in abstract and article preparation with the Principal Investigator, publish results in research journals, and present findings at conferences.
- Assist the Principal Investigator in applying for fellowship, grant, and scholarship support, as requested.
- Assume general responsibility for scientific operations of the laboratory, including training and supervising interns, students, and other laboratory personnel, as necessary.
Minimum Qualifications:
We welcome applications from all qualified individuals with a Ph.D. or M.D. degree (either completed or nearly completed)
