As a Postdoctoral Associate, you will be working on projects related to Brain and neuromuscular degeneration associated with mitochondrial dysfunction, including Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, Mitochondrial myopathy, and Friedreich Ataxia.
You will be responsible for the following:
- Conduct the research independently and/or collaboratively with colleagues to ensure all experiments are appropriately conducted following Lab, Department, and College policies and procedures.
- Designing, organizing, and carrying out experiments using established protocols, and sometimes adapting to and designing new protocols.
- Maintain mouse colonies and cultured cell lines used for the projects.
- Collect, prepare, and analyze research data. This may include keeping a detailed notebook summarizing experiments and recording research data and/or maintaining a computer database of the research data.
- Tabulate data for presentations and use graphics and statistical software to analyze and present data.
- Participate in abstract and article preparation with the Principal Investigators, publish results in research journals, and present findings at conferences.
- Assist the Principal Investigators in applying for grants and scholarship support.
- Assume general responsibility for scientific operations of the laboratory, including training and supervising interns, students, and other laboratory personnel, as necessary.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in related field or discipline, such as Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Neuroscience.
- Self-motivated, resourceful, enthusiastic, and a strong work ethic.
- Strong background in mitochondrial biology and the biological/mechanistic basis of mitochondrial involvement in neurodegenerative diseases.
- Peer-reviewed publications in related fields.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and in a collaborative group environment.
- Established skills in laboratory techniques, such as confocal microscopy, cell culture and transfections, molecular cloning, mouse behavior and motor skills, qPCR, Western Blotting.
- Sufficient knowledge of large -omics dataset analyses using R or similar informatic tools and of image analysis using cell profiler, Fiji imageJ or similar.
- Ability to teach and train students in laboratory techniques.
- Excellent problem-solving ability and analytical thinking skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior research experience and expertise directly related to our lab specific mission.
- Hands-on experience with specialized techniques and equipment essential for assessment of OxPhos function, mitochondrial imaging in cells and in vivo.
- A publication record in mitochondrial diseases and mitochondria in neurodegeneration and aging.

Salary:
$75,812-$80,192, depending on postdoctoral experience.
