Postdoctoral position in the lab of Dr. Michael Podolsky

The laboratory is focused on investigating the mechanisms underlying the resolution of tissue fibrosis leading to regeneration of normal tissue architecture and function. The applicant will utilize basic methodology in cellular and molecular biology, functional genomics, microscopic imaging and computational approaches to investigate this area with both in vitro models and in vivo mouse models of fibrotic disease and extracellular matrix turnover. Ideal candidates will look to be the primary driver of their research project with frequent input from the principal investigator.

The research environment at Weill Cornell is robust and collaborative, and Dr. Podolsky’s lab is located adjacent to multiple NIH-funded investigators focused primarily on lung disease. The laboratory is located on the tri-institutional campus in Manhattan, with a vibrant research community, and Dr. Podolsky has local as well as national and international collaborations.

As a Postdoctoral Associate, you will be working on a project related to tissue fibrosis and regeneration. You will be responsible for the following:

  • Conduct the research independently and/or collaboratively with colleagues to ensure all experiments are appropriately conducted following Lab, Department, and College policies and procedures.
  • Designing, organizing, and carrying out experiments using established protocols, and sometimes adapting to and designing new protocols.
  • Collect, prepare, and analyze research data. This may include keeping a detailed notebook summarizing experiments and recording research data and/or maintaining a computer database of the research data.
  • Tabulate data for presentations and use graphics and statistical software to analyze and present data.
  • Participate in abstract and article preparation with the Principal Investigator, publish results in research journals, and present findings at conferences.
  • Assist the Principal Investigator in applying for fellowship, grant, and scholarship support, as requested.
  • Apply for your own fellowship and intramural and extramural funding opportunities.
  • Assume general responsibility for scientific operations of the laboratory, including training and supervising interns, students, and other laboratory personnel, as necessary.
