We are seeking a motivated postdoctoral scientist to investigate how neurovascular dysfunction contributes to the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and vascular dementia. The research integrates in vivo cerebrovascular physiology, behavioral assessments, and cellular and molecular approaches using mouse models of amyloid pathology, tauopathy, and APOE-associated disease risk, including Tg2576, 5xFAD, PS19, and APOE3/4-targeted replacement mice. The successful candidate will perform cranial window surgery over the somatosensory cortex, measure cerebral blood flow using various tools (laser speckle imaging, laser Doppler flowmetry, multiphoton microscope, and MRI), conduct behavioral studies, and collect tissues for downstream analyses. Responsibilities will also include maintaining mouse colonies, organizing a tissue biorepository, preparing samples for amyloid-β, tau, and ApoE measurements, and sectioning tissues using a vibratome and cryostat. Additional experiments will involve immunohistochemistry, RNAscope, and light and confocal microscopy. Prior experience with in vivo animal surgery, particularly cranial window preparation, is preferred; training will be provided. Experience assessing reactive oxygen species, nitric oxide, and neuroinflammation is desirable, as is familiarity with computational approaches for analyzing spatial and other omics datasets, including gene co-expression and pathway analyses. The postdoctoral scientist will maintain detailed, accurate records of experiments and results and contribute to laboratory operations, including mouse and chemical inventories, supply ordering, and instrument maintenance. We welcome candidates with strong organizational skills, scientific curiosity, and an interest in collaborative research at the intersection of cerebrovascular biology and neurodegeneration.
The postdoc will be responsible for the following:
- Conduct the research independently and/or collaboratively with colleagues to ensure all experiments are appropriately conducted following Lab, Department, and College policies and procedures.
- Designing, organizing, and carrying out experiments using established protocols, and sometimes adapting to and designing new protocols.
- Collect, prepare, and analyze research data. This may include keeping a detailed notebook summarizing experiments and recording research data and/or maintaining a computer database of the research data.
- Tabulate data for presentations and use graphics and statistical software to analyze and present data.
- Participate in abstract and article preparation with the Principal Investigator, publish results in research journals, and present findings at conferences.
- Assist the Principal Investigator in applying for fellowship, grant, and scholarship support, as requested.
- Assume general responsibility for scientific operations of the laboratory, including training and supervising interns, students, and other laboratory personnel, as necessary.
Minimum Qualifications:
-PhD degree
Application Process:
