Postdoctoral Associate in Medicine

The Landau Laboratory in the Department of Medicine, Sandra and Edward Meyer Cancer Center of Weill Cornell Medicine in New York, NY is seeking a postdoctoral fellow with expertise in single-cell genomics technology innovation lead. The Landau Lab (https://www.landaulab.org/) develops cutting-edge single-cell multi-omics technologies to study cancer evolution. A Technology Innovation Lead will develop creative protocols for sample and library preparation for single cell genomics, and will push the cutting edge of genomics through exploratory research.

The candidate should be an independent thinker that can develop new protocols and novel schemes to solve complex problems. They will innovate in a revolutionary rather than evolutionary manner. The candidate will be expected to contribute to existing lab projects as well as identify unmet needs in genomics and design new approaches to address them.

Given the interdisciplinary nature of our team, we are looking for candidates with extensive experience in molecular biology, biologically-focused chemistry, and/or bio-engineering. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Monitor developments in sequencing technology and remain on the cutting edge of NGS technology and its many applications
  • Design novel strategies to prepare samples and libraries for multi-omics single-cell technology
  • Master and improve methods on the newest sequencing instruments, as they arrive
  • Collaborate with new technology providers and provide expertise on next-generation sequencing to maintain NYGC/WCM at the forefront of sequencing and genomic analysis
  • Be a source of knowledge for the team and the rest of the center in applying your skills to solve specific research problems;
  • Maintain significant knowledge of the current, relevant scientific literature, and communicate key developments to other lab members to ensure competitiveness of the group;
  • Publish and present current research through high-impact journals, posters and presentations in a timely manner to the benefit of the research community and to improve the profile of the Center;
  • Take an active part in lab meetings, sharing and improving the knowledge of the team and obtaining information relevant to the team’s goals.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Relevant Ph.D. degree with a strong molecular biology, chemistry, or engineering focus. A combination of these skills is preferred;
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of modern molecular biology and/or chemistry tools, including next-generation sequencing methods;
  • A proven track record in innovation and technology development;
  • Ability to work in an independent manner with minimal supervision but having a strong collaborative personality;
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills;
  • Computing skills essential, and bioinformatics experience preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience monitoring developments in sequencing technology and remain on the cutting edge of NGS technology and its many applications
  • Experience designing novel strategies to prepare samples and libraries for multi-omics single-cell technology
  • Independent thinker that can develop new protocols and novel schemes to solve complex problems.
  • Familiarity with identifying unmet needs in genomics and designing new approaches to address them.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and train junior laboratory personnel.

Application Process:

Interested candidates should send a curriculum vitae (CV), statement of research interests (prior research experience, accomplishments, and career goals), list of previous publication and the names and contact information of 3 professional referees to dal3005@med.cornell.edu with subject title: Application for Postdoctoral Associate Position.
