The postdoctoral scientist will be interrogating the role of lipid metabolism in Alzheimer’s disease mouse models and human cell models. Duties will include mouse colony maintenance, behavioral studies and tissue harvest from multiple mouse models of Alzheimer’s disease including APP, BIN1, ACSL6, PICALM and ABCA7. They will be responsible for organizing biorepository of tissues and preparing tissue samples for lipidomic analyses as well using cryosectioning. The postdoc will also perform bench experiments including but not limited to ICC, RNAscope, exosome isolation. Prior experience is preferred, but training will be provided. Expertise in induced pluripotent stem cells to model lipid deficits in differentiated neurons, microglia and astrocytes is preferred. They will also assist in determining fluid biomarkers in human and mouse biospecimens. The postdoc will keep a lab notebook with detailed records of all experiments and results as well as assist with mouse inventory, chemical inventory, ordering inventory and instrument maintenance. Experience with computational methods for spatial and -omics co-expression and pathway analyses is preferred.
They will be responsible for the following:
- Conduct the research independently and/or collaboratively with colleagues to ensure all experiments are appropriately conducted following Lab, Department, and College policies and procedures.
- Designing, organizing, and carrying out experiments using established protocols, and sometimes adapting to and designing new protocols.
- Collect, prepare, and analyze research data. This includes keeping a detailed notebook summarizing experiments and recording research data and/or maintaining a computer database of the research data.
- Tabulate data for presentations and use graphics and statistical software to analyze and present data.
- Participate in abstract and article preparation with the Principal Investigator, publish results in research journals, and present findings at conferences.
- Assist the Principal Investigator in applying for fellowship, grant, and scholarship support, as requested.
- Assume general responsibility for scientific operations of the laboratory, including training and supervising interns, students, and other laboratory personnel, as necessary.
