Weill Cornell Medicine Department of Radiology has a position available for an ultrasound scientist with an engineering background. You will work under the supervision of Professor Jeffrey Ketterling, Ph.D. This work is highly interdisciplinary, involving close collaboration with engineers and ophthalmologists. As a Post-doctoral Associate, you will be working on a project to develop methods to quantify static and elastic properties of the human vitreous using a row-column ultrasound array.
You will be responsible for the following:
- Conduct benchtop and human subject studies to characterize vitreous using 3D ultrasound.
- Conduct the research independently and/or collaboratively with colleagues to ensure all experiments are appropriately conducted following Lab, Department, and College policies and procedures.
- Designing, organizing, and carrying out experiments using established protocols, and sometimes adapting to and designing new protocols.
- Collect, prepare, and analyze research data. This may include keeping a detailed notebook summarizing experiments and recording research data and/or maintaining a computer database of the research data.
- Tabulate data for presentations and use graphics and statistical software to analyze and present data.
- Participate in abstract and article preparation with the Principal Investigator, publish results in research journals, and present findings at conferences.
- Assist the Principal Investigator in applying for fellowship, grant, and scholarship support, as requested.
- Assume general responsibility for scientific operations of the laboratory, including training and supervising interns, students, and other laboratory personnel, as necessary.
- Work with others on collaborative projects.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in mechanical, electrical, biomedical engineering or related relevant field.
- Experience with ultrasound imaging systems, technology and data processing.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Graduate studies undertaken in an ultrasound focused laboratory.
- Knowledge of quantitative ultrasound methods.
- Able to undertake benchtop experiments to validate imaging methods.
- Familiarity and experience with acoustic field simulations.
- Knowledge of viscoelastic measurements and theory.
- Hands on experience programming and using Verasonics Vantage systems.
