Postdoctoral Position to Study the Biology of Axon Survival and Degeneration

The Simon lab at Weill Cornell (djsimonlab.com) studies the cell biology of axons, the cable-like structures that connect neurons to their targets. Axon degeneration is an early hallmark of many neurodegenerative diseases yet little is known about the signaling mechanisms that drive degeneration and no therapeutics exist to block this process. We take a ‘bottom-up’ approach by first understanding the molecules and pathways that control axon survival, and then working upstream to ask how cellular stresses including misfolded proteins and loss of neurotrophic support disrupt these pathways to promote degeneration.
