Postdoctoral Fellow in the Sahni Lab (Burke Neurological Institute)

The laboratory for Cell fate specification and Circuit Development at the Burke Neurological Institute affiliated with Weill Cornell Medicine is seeking a talented Postdoctoral Fellow to work in the field of developmental and regenerative neuroscience. The Burke Neurological Institute is a unique setting where investigators engaged in fundamental neuroscience research work alongside those conducting clinical studies with patients (stroke, spinal cord injury, cerebral palsy) with a singular focus to cure neurological disability.

The goal of our lab specifically is to use fundamental neuroscience to identify molecular strategies that can be utilized for repairing the diseased or damaged nervous system. Using mouse models and advanced molecular approaches, our work is specifically focused toward repair and recovery in motor neuron diseases such as ALS, as well as following spinal cord injury, and stroke.

For this, we use advanced molecular approaches including mouse genetics, CRISPR–mediated gene editing, in utero electroporation for gene misexpression, viral-mediated gene transfer, and molecular profiling (transcriptomics, epigenomics). We combine these approaches with precision surgery using ultrasound-guided backscatter microscopy, high-throughput imaging, mouse models of CNS injury and disease, and behavior.

Job Requirements

• Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or a related field in the life sciences at the time of employment.

• A background in Neuroscience as well as directly related lab experience in molecular biology techniques (gene misexpression, gene profiling, anatomical circuit-level investigation, and/or mouse surgical experience will be considered as a plus).

• Strong communication, demonstrated organization skills, attention to detail, and the ability to carry out responsibilities in a collaborative team environment are essential.

How to Apply

To apply, interested candidates should complete the online application, upload a cover letter and a resume, as well as include three contacts for references.
